Liquid Resistance Starters
PulseTech is a leading Australian supplier of Liquid Resistance Starters (LRS) to mining, metal-recycling, cement, energy, sugar cane and water industry sectors.
Our liquid resistance starters are made in Germany using the highest quality materials and components. The robust design of our liquid starters combined with quality manufacturing, results in the highest reliability in the market with minimum site maintenance.
PulseTech provides comprehensive installation, commissioning and maintenance support Australia wide for the liquid starters. We are specialists in the replacement of existing secondary resistance starters and can help you extend the life of your plant. We can specially design and manufacture starters to be interchangeable with your existing starter characteristics and interfaces so that you can easily carry out the replacement during the normal maintenance shutdown of your plant.
We can also supply parts and electrolyte salt for your existing resistance starter. Please send us an enquiry with details of your existing equipment, our product specialists will promptly assist you with your request.

Features of Our Liquid Starters
MFA 1-9
Smooth and Spindle-less Blade Electrode System
The MFA 1-4 Series is an excellent choice for small to medium sized power range applications from 100 to 4,000 kW. The specially designed and patented blade electrode alignment allows for a compact design to simplify service and maintenance.
The MFA is a highly efficient and modern design that provides a very good alternative to the the traditional old-cooled starters. The high level of flexibility offered by the MFA series is an attractive alternative to oil-cooled models that can cause environmental damage in the event of a malfunction.
Product Range
SFAK 31-101
High Speed Servo Drive System
The SFAK Series covers a power range from 1,500 to 20,000 kW of engine output. They are usually used as a Liquid Resistance Starters for Metal Shredding Drive Systems due to their highly dynamic control and positioning characteristics.
The system comes fully equipped with the latest motor management system and PLC Control via Profibus or Ethernet interface. The SFAK Series can also be offered with a slip ring motor, medium voltage switch gear and a re-cooling system as part of a complete solution.
AFA 25-105
Smooth and Spindleless Ring Electrode System
The AFA Series is based on the original 1917 design that was produced by BEA. Their production and further technological enhancements were taken up by MKS in 2001. These Liquid Resistance Starters/Liquid Rheostats incorporate the classic BEA Ring Electrode System.
The AFA range of Liquid Starter stands out for their high current rating and power range. These starters are rated from 2,000 to 20,000 kW , have high resistance ratio and a very low final resistance at their minimal electrolyte concentration.
They are often used for the starting of mills, ventilators, pumps, crushers and also in sugar mills
PulseTech also supplies interchangeable spare parts for old BEA Liquid Rheostat units. With documentation dating back to 1952, we are capable to provide local Australian support for BEA Liquid Starter units that are currently in operation.
Our Liquid Rheostat units are also fully customisable and can be supplied with the following upgrades:
-
Additional Stainless Steel Tank
-
Rotor Blocking Device
-
Conductivity Meters
-
Torque Control Start
-
Brush Lifting Control
-
Spare Parts for BEA Liquid Starter and MKS Upgrades
-
Automation PLC (Siemens or Allen Bradley)
-
Tank and Electrical Enclosure in Stainless Steel
-
Electrodes (made of Bronze)
-
ProfibusDP Slave for Siemens PLC
-
Short Circuit and Electrical Cabinet (Stainless Steel)
-
Advanced Rotor Monitor (ARM) for Mill Locked Charge Protection
Spare Parts for BEA Liquid Starter and MKS Upgrades
Background of our Technology Partner
Our LRS (Liquid Resistance Starters also known as Liquid Rheostats) are manufactured by MKS Anlasser, Germany that manufactures very high-quality and cost effective Liquid Starters that are mainly used in Slip Ring Motor applications.
MKS can look back on more than 100 years of expertise and experience in the field of drive technology dating back to 1917, with the acquisition of BEA Liquid Starters.
With our experience in Liquid Resistance Starters, Pulsetech can provide you with all the knowledge, experience or spare parts that you need.
